Inauguration speech
By: Naima Orozco

We live in hard times. Times where we have to fight harder than a lot of us have had to before. Fight for a better economy, for health care, and to conserve energy to create a better education for our children. We have to fight for these things and so much more- not only for us, but for a brighter future. There are dark clouds above us and if we do not work to do something, these clouds will not clear.
Today is a new day, a day in which we have to conserve energy and be eco-friendly. There are so many little things that we can do to help the planet on which we live. Taking shorter showers, turning off lights when we leave a room and taking a bike or walking instead of driving a car are some things we can do. If all of us in the United States made these little sacrifices it can lead to so much more.
There are so many flaws in the way that we run our country, but there are many more great things. Our economy is one of the greatest problems that we have. Homes have been lost, and so many homes are gone because of our economy. People are in debt and many are on the street. We will get through these tough times as a country and stand true to what we believe in.
The children are the future, the reason that we work harder and harder every day. Our education is a crucial part of keeping the American dream alive. We need better school materials to use in the classroom. Not only do we have needs, but the teacher’s paycheck comes every year ranging between 30,000 to 90,000 a year. For the amount of late- night work and in- class hours they work, they deserve more money.
America is full of different types of people. Different races, different religions, different classes. Do we have to be treated differently from others just because of our race or religion? The answer should be no, but to some it is yes. Racism has been disappearing slowly over the years but it is still alive in some parts of America.
Today is a big step for America. We have overcome a small portion of racism. That is visible because I am standing in front of you, ready to lead you into my vision of a new America.
